By Adcrafter Paul Gross It was a most spirited final bowling night of the season as three teams - Neuner's Automotive, Team 144, and WXYZ-WMYD - qualified for the league championship playoff. For those not familiar with Adcraft Bowling, unlike our normal bowling nights in which teams win two points for each of the three games bowled and one point for winning total pinfall at the end of the night, the league champion is decided simply by total pinfall after three games, with handicap added in. And that's a good thing for WXYZ-WMYD because Team 144 would have won the first and third games, and the title, if this was like any other bowling night. Instead, WXYZ-WMYD won the title by 48 pins! The night actually started out with a mediocre first game by WXYZ-WMYD, as Neuner's and Team 144 battled to within two pins of each other and the lead. Cory Youngblood (201) paced Neuner's, while Gary May (172) and Yours Truly (210) led Team 144. But then came the second game. While post-match blood and urinalysis test results were still pending as of the time this was written, something got into WXYZ-WMYD, which put on one of the great exhibitions of championship bowling in league history. Russ Rothermel, Greg Flash and Don Ashcraft, with averages ranging from 161 to 179, tossed 182 / 221 / 224 games to jump way ahead of Neuner's and Team 144. Laurel Hamilton (151 average) sealed the deal for WXYZ-WMYD by tossing a ginormous 200 game in game three to prevent anybody from overtaking them and, thus, earning the coveted Lew Houghton Trophy...despite 202 and 211 games from Team 144's Dave Burzynski and Yours Truly. Congrats to the champs on a job well done!
